The Story of Developing Africa Together…

In the spring of 2017, Emmanuel and Mary Agbovi were given a unique challenge.

Their pastor gave them – and 275 other volunteers – $100 and simple instructions: multiply it and find a project to invest in outside the church.

With clarity sharpened by lifelong experiences – for Mary, growing up in a nomadic lifestyle in the United States with no formal education, and for Emmanuel, growing up in Togo, West Africa, witnessing the extreme hardship students faced to receive an education – the couple knew this challenge from their pastor was the spark they needed to ignite a lifelong vision.

Three months and a fundraising drive later, that $100 bill became a school in Emmanuel’s homeland of Togo, West Africa, where more than 175 children, previously sitting under a tree and a tarp, now receive their education in a safe structure.

The Agbovi’s aren’t stopping with just one school.

In October 2019, they founded Developing Africa Together, and together with their board of directors, have created an organizational structure that will partner with community leaders across the continent to provide developmental, educational resources in multiple areas, including K-12 schools, supplies for college students, and training in health and business sectors.
